In April this year Sir Francis Graham-Smith, who until a couple of years ago lived in Old School House, reached the ripe -old age of 100!
He is affectionally remembered as one of the founders of the Millennium Green, the Trust's Chairman for many years and a tireless innovator and custodian of this lovely green space just across the road from his home.
As 13th Astronomer Royal he is seen here in 1999 with the contractor aligning the massive Kerridge stone gnomon of the sundial to accurately measure the time here in Henbury for generations to come.
We have added a small plaque to the sundial to celebrate his centenary and thank him for his many years of dedication to our Green.
