Many of you will know that a Guy Fawkes Bonfire and Firework Display has been held on Henbury Millennium Green every year since 2000 (except 2020 – Covid Lockdown) .
It's a very family friendly event which has attracted several hundred visitors, it has become a highlight of Henbury life , and it has for many years raised enough money to cover the annual cost of maintaining the Green.
However due to low Trustee availability between now and November and the increasing difficulty over the last few years in getting sufficient volunteer support to run the event, the Trust has very reluctantly taken the difficult decision not to run a Bonfire and Fireworks this year.
The consequent loss of income will not be terminal to the Trust but fundraising at a similar level in the next and subsequent years will be essential if the Green is to continue to offer the community the same free outdoor recreation facility it has since the Millennium.
The trustees will now review the way the Trust is organised and how it can be improved to suit the situation today and in the years to come. This will of course include determining how the bonfire and firework event could be reintroduced next year.
Please contact us at editor@henbury.org if you would be prepared to help as a Trustee or with general Green maintenance in the future? Thank you.
