Residents travelling to Macclesfield may well have seen the preparatory works for extensive roadworks on Chelford Road that are due to statrt on Thursday 22nd January 2026 . These works are to construct a new roundabout that will link houses to the North of Chelford Road with the new Jones/Redrow homes estate that is to be built to the south of Chelford Road. In due course this road will link through to Gawsworth Road. Full details of the eventual scheme are available at Cheshire East Planning.
Attached is a copy of a letter the contractors have circulated to a few properties adjacent to the scheduled works. As you can see there will be “temporary” traffic lights until 01 May 2026 however residents should be aware that commencing Easter Monday 6thApril a full close of Chelford Road will be in place until 10th April 2026. The advised diversionary route is shown which will add 50 minutes driving time to Macclesfield. The Parish Council and others have been in discussion with the contractor and local Council representatives to endeavour to mitigate the inevitable disruption the road close will inevitably result in.
The contractor has agreed to additional staff to keep Broken Cross traffic lights flowing in the early stage of roadworks. Furthermore, any vulnerable residents who MUST access Macclesfield during the full closure may be able to do so through a limited arrangement with the site foreman. It is hoped that local knowledge will help in finding access to Macclesfield however from past experience we are sure these routes will become gridlocked during peak hours. If you believe you may require access please submit your contact details to editor@henburyonline.com
